FSC in dialog: Agricultural production and carbon trade-offs in Russia

June 2, 2013

The topic "Potentials of agricultural production and carbon trade-offs in the Russian Federation" was presented and discussed on June, 2 by Daniel Müller from the Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Central and Eastern Europe of the Geography Department of the Humboldt University in Berlin.
The Russian Federation is of exceptional importance for increasing global agricultural production and improving food security, because large tracts of unused land coincide with high yield gaps. In the presentation, the amount and the location of agricultural potentials in Russia were quantified, as well as the extent to which they can be exploited without imposing adverse effects on the global climate system.
