First International Conference on Global Food Security in the Netherlands
September 29, 2013
From September 29 to October 2 the First International Conference on Global Food Security was held in Noordwijkerhout in the Netherlands. It aimed to deliver state-of-the-art analysis, inspiring visions and innovative research methods arising from interdisciplinary research.
Achieving global food security whilst reconciling demands on the environment is the greatest challenge faced by mankind. By 2050 we will need to feed 9 billion people. The urgency of the issue has led to huge scientific strides forwards; making it difficult to keep up with the rapidly expanding volume of scientific research.
The aim was to better understand economic, social, biophysical, technological and institutional drivers of current and future global food security. The conference addressed food production and access, and the trade-offs between competing environmental, economic or social objectives and outcomes. For detailed information please click HERE.
The conference attracted over 600 participants from 65 countries. And some FSC scholars got the opportunity to attend the conference to represent FSC along with FSCĀ“s executive manager Andrea Jost and the director Manfred Zeller.
