Kick-off workshop at Konstanz, Germany

October 18, 2013

A kick-off workshop from October 18th to 21st, 2013 for the incoming YES scholars joined with FSC awardees and members of the PhD Program at a retreat weekend in Constance. The new scholars were introduced to the FSC family and received a very warm welcome.
All students reported on the results of their PhD research work or their project proposals. The presentations covered research in plant breeding, soil science and plant production, agro-economy, animal science as well as nutrition. Topics such as the search of Sorghum breeds capable of coping with climatic change in West Africa, or drying techniques for papaya in Thailand, or the relevance of malnutrition for tbc susceptibility in Ethiopia, as well as "Urbanization, Poverty Reduction and Food Consumption in China" showed the impressive range of research issues that are tackled within FSC. The 3 day work program was completed with a sightseeing tour to Meersburg, which is on the opposite shore of Lake of Constance, and to the ancient city of Constance.
