FSC in dialog: Animals and Inequalities

October 29, 2013

On October 29th, 2013 Robert Christley from the Institute of Infection and Global Health at the University of Liverpool presented and discussed the topic: "Animals and Inequalities: Placing animal health in society" at the "FSC in dialog" lecture series in Hohenheim.

The biomedical concepts of animal health have developed in parallel with those of human health and are the mainstay of veterinary science. However, in contrast to human health, the role of social (or biosocial) factors as determinants of animal health has received much less attention. An oft-stated goal of animal health scientists is that of food security against the backdrop of a growing world population and environmental change. In the presentation, the links between these concepts were discussed and highlighted changing perceptions of these issues.
