Summer school at SEARCA, Philippines

The Summer School on “Sustainable Agricultural and Rural Development for Food Security” took place from November 1st to 30th, 2013 in Los Banos, Philippines.

The Summer School is one of many activities from the Food Security Center (FSC).
The Summer School is a one-month program conducted annually by the FSC through its regional and strategic partners. It aims to provide additional knowledge, learning skills and exposure to graduate and postdoctoral students on various topics related to food security in order to enhance their graduate programs. This year`s Summer School was carried out in cooperation with SEARCA.  For the entire month of November, SEARCA served as a home to thirteen scholars from Asia, Africa and Latin America, who were chosen by FSC and SEARCA for the summer school. The program offered a combination of lectures, led by esteemed professors and resource persons, educational field trips, group work, and field practice. It was funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The Summer School offered four course modules:

 

  1. Integrated Sustainable Agriculture and Food Production Systems, 
  2. Population, Food and Governance Issues,
  3. Food and Nutrition Quality and Safety
  4. Climate Change Adaptation for Rural Development and Food Security.
