Soft Skills Workshop on Leadership Development in Windeck-Rosbach

On June 15th – 20th, 2014 a group of PhD students from ZEF and FSC met in the forest youth hostel near Bonn for training in leadership development. Many of them will become team leaders one day; therefore it is essential to know what leadership is all about. Although some people might be born leaders, the majority needs to practice crucial behavioral and leadership tools to manage groups successfully. Future leaders require a modern understanding of governance, as well as skills and tools to develop ideas for changes to reflect the new needs within and beyond their specific institute, organization or sector.
This course was held by Holger Nauheimer. He is an experienced trainer and was highly appreciated by the participants. This is the 5th time he has held the workshop for the ZEF and FSC. This time he was assisted by Inge Jansen, a young trainer. She was implemented a range of outdoor activities to enhance the team building.

Practical training units were emphasized so that the participants could explore nature as well as the complexities of leading and their implications on addressing key relevant issues. They developed an understanding of the various concepts, roles and practices of effective leadership. They identified and analyzed critical leadership-related problems, designed ideas and developed a vision and leadership capabilities to bring about changes that balance economic, social and environmental values.
