The 5th international symposium for farming systems design: Multi-functional farming systems in a changing world

The 5th Farming Systems Design (FSD5) will be an opportunity to extend the collaboration with major agronomy societies, scientific societies in other disciplines as well as international institutions or initiatives with an interest in farming systems. The forum also aims at involving research related to policy design, incentives and investment, as well as players in the value/supply chains, to help secure positive change within farming systems. The symposium will focus on methodological aspects of FSD research and their applications in agriculture, innovation and policy design. More

Lost harvest and wasted food

This course will look at ways to minimize losses, reduce food waste and explore alternative uses. The course will critically analyse the crop supply chain, and design sustainable alternatives with special attention to harvest practices, storage, spoilage and food waste management. The role and responsibilities of the various stakeholders will be addressed. The training approach is interactive: the organizers will use a mixture of lectures, discussions, group work and field trips with the aim to expose participants, as far as possible, to all aspects of post-harvest and waste management.
