World Food Day Colloquium 2019
„Food Security and Trade in a
Period of Change and Innovation”

Wednesday, October 16, 2019, Balcony Hall, University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany

On the one hand, global trade with agricultural and food products offers a huge potential for contributing to food security, for example by enabling the provision of diverse food sources. On the other hand, trade may also jeopardize local and regional agricultural markets and producers, especially in developing countries. Further, the carbon footprint of food products and, thus, the impact on climate change, but also food scandals have increased the awareness to focus again more on local and regional products. This might be true for developed countries, but how can local / regional trade in developing countries become strengthened? Can the complexity of trade, climate change and food security become a sustainable system?

Experts and scientists are actively involved in answering these questions and will present their perspectives. Young scientists from developing countries and funded by FSC will give insights into their research. The World Food Day Colloquium 2019 will end with a panel discussion during which experts will debate the specific roles of trade with agricultural and food products on global food security.

As a special highlight the “Justus von Liebig Award for World Nutrition 2019” will be granted by the Foundation fiat panis.
