The former FSC adviser Michael Windfuhr received the “Professor-Niklas-Medal” for his ongoing commitment –It’ the highest award of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture (BMELV)

The former FSC adviser Michael Windfuhr received the “Professor-Niklas-Medal” for his ongoing commitment. At the award ceremony the Minister for Agriculture, Ilse Aigner, highlighted the engagement of Mr. Windfuhr, the Vice Director of the German Institute for Human Rights, during the negotiations on the guidelines for a responsible administration of soil and land use, fisheries and forestry.

“Whenever the discussions went solid, Michael Windfuhr succeeded -with persistence and diplomatic skills- to continue the consultations. So it’s also his achievement that the guidelines became a step stone of international development cooperation. They contain sound criteria’s for a responsible handling of investments in agriculture and rural areas” the minister stated.
He was also honored for his commitment in the last 20 years being actively involved in the implementation of the right on food in his former positions as head of FIAN (Food First Information and Action Network) and later for Brot für die Welt. Ilse Aigner emphasized the importance of an engaged civil society and its active members.

The “Professor-Niklas-Medal” is the highest award of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture (BMELV). The name is referring to Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Wilhelm Niklas the first Minister of agriculture of the German Federal Government.
