Environment and development studies with a focus on droughts and associated impacts, range ecology and management, environmental history, natural resource-based conflicts, human vulnerability and adaptation to climate change, fire ecology, land use and tenure changes, pastoral development and risk management, food security, indigenous knowledge and role of traditional institution in natural resource management

History of land use, impacts of long-term grazing and climate change on pastoral ecosystem and conservation of biodiversity (Principal investigator);

Collaborator and principal investigator from Hawassa University side in the BMZ funded Project with ILRI, Nairobi on “Livelihood diversifying potential of livestock based carbon sequestration options in pastoral and agro pastoral systems in Africa”;

Bush encroachment as a process of landscape change: Ecological and management assessment in southern Ethiopia
