CLIFOOD postdoctoral scholarship

FSC offers one postdoctoral scholarship to the top selected applicant from East and Central Africa to conduct a research in the frame of the CLIFOOD Project at Hawassa University, Ethiopia.

The successful candidate will collaborate with the scientific staff of Hawassa University to conduct a 1.5-2 years’ research on a defined topic (please see the research topic section).

 

The scholarship includes
  • Award for staying at Hawassa University, Ethiopia;
  • The monthly grant is EUR 650, including health and liability insurance;
  • Travel costs to and from Hawassa University (one round trip) will be covered.

Interregional South-South collaborations with institutions in other Eastern and Central African countries are encouraged in particular. Limited funding for research will be provided by the CLIFOOD project. The objective of the collaborations is to write peer-reviewed publications. Interdisciplinary research cooperation with all CLIFOOD subprojects at Hawassa and Hohenheim University will be appreciated.

 
The successful applicant 
  1. shall present his/her research work at the partners’ seminars, lecture series and/or workshops;
  2. is obliged to take part in structured block seminars dealing with CLIFOOD related topics as well as in soft skill courses;
  3. shall engage in teaching and training activities related to the graduate and/or postgraduate level research topics at Hawassa University;
  4. shall establish an active and long-lasting collaboration with the supported researchers and their home institutes as well as FSC through an interactive alumni network.
The applicant must provide proof of 
  1. outstanding study performance in agricultural production systems and animal sciences or related disciplines with specifications on the announced topic with a minimum M.Sc. CGPA of 3.25 or above, or its equivalent; very good performance on his/her PhD dissertation;
  2. PhD degree in animal sciences, animal nutrition or related fields, with special research experience on cattle production, reproduction and adaptation traits;
  3. track record of knowledge in the proposed field of study;
  4. excellent proficiency in oral and written English (more info).

 

Furthermore, the applicant must
  1. be able to conduct innovative research;
  2. have excellent interpersonal skills and team spirit;
  3. be able and willing to work well in an interdisciplinary, multicultural environment with individuals from different scientific, societal and cultural backgrounds and with organizations from the public, private and civil society sector;
  4. be available for the entire period of the research stay of 1.5 -2 years;
  5. be a national of one of the Eastern and Central African Countries
    (Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe as well as Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Republic of the Congo);
  6. the final graduation (PhD) at the time of submitting the application should not lie further back than 2 years.

  1. All accepted applications will be selected according to the following criteria:
    • Fulfillment of the announcement criteria
    • Quality of proposal and project feasibility 
  2. Only those applications will be accepted which are submitted using the FSC’s application templates (see above);
  3. The selection of the applicant will take place right after the end of the application period;
  4. The scholarship will start at any time, based on the agreement between the supervisor of the hosting institute and the scholar;
  5. The selected applicant will be contacted via email after the selection process.

 

Important dates

1.Selection of applicants will start right after the deadline for application: February 17, 2019, 24:00 (CET)
2.Start of the scholarships: immediately after receiving the scholarship award and arriving in Hawassa
3.Selected applicants will be informed about the result of the applications via email, as soon as the selection is finalized.
