CLIFOOD:  Field trip within the Block Seminars at Hawassa University


As part of the qualification program for the SDG Graduate School CLIFOOD, six Block Seminars are planned per generation of PhD Scholars between the Hawassa University (HU) in Ethiopia and the University of Hohenheim (UHOH).
The first and second Block Seminars of the CLIFOOD SDG Graduate School (1: Introduction to state of the art in research on climate change and food security with respect to SDGs and 2: Food and feed Crops) took place at the Hawassa University from November 20th to 29th, 2017. CLIFOOD scholars from HU and UHOH as well as young scientists and lecturers from HU were trained during the Block Seminars.
The seminars included lectures, workshops and a field trip to Dale district.

The program of the field trip on November 25th, 2017 included:
- introduction to the drought prone agricultural systems
- visit to farm household: introduction of local farming systems, demonstration of Enset harvest and processing (Enset, also known as "false banana", is a traditional staple crop in many parts of densely populated south and south-western Ethiopia)
- visit to coffee processing cooperative: introduction into regional cooperatives and processing of the main cash crop in Sidamo, Ethiopia
