CLIFOOD Block Seminar 3: Official Day

A public event on the topic „Climate and Modeling“ opened the CLIFOOD Block Seminar 3 on March 22, 2018 at the University of Hohenheim. Prof. Dr. Reiner Doluschitz, Director of Food Security Center, Prof. Dr. Ralf Vögele, Dean of Faculty of Agriculture (University of Hohenheim) and Dr. Tesfaye Abebe Amdie, Vice President for Research and Technology, Assoc. Prof. at School of Plant and Horticultural Sciences, College of Agriculture (Hawassa University) welcomed CLIFOOD partners and external participants of the public event.

Highlight of the event was a keynote on “New developments in crop and land surface modeling” by Prof. Dr. Thilo Streck from the Institute of Soil Science and Land Evaluation, Biogeophysics, University of Hohenheim. His colleague Dr. Sebastian Gayler gave a lecture on “Specific aspects of crop modeling”. Participants could apply learned knowledge during the subsequent computer exercises on crop modeling.

Subprojects PhD scholars Haimanot Hailegiorgis Ayele (Institute of Agricultural Sciences in the Tropics (Hans-Ruthenberg-Institute), University of Hohenheim), Dagem Alemayehu Ayele / School of Human Nutrition, Food Science and Technology, College of Agriculture, Hawassa University) and Williams Oyifioda Anteyi (Institute of Agricultural Sciences in the Tropics (Hans-Ruthenberg-Institute), University of Hohenheim) presented their status reports.

Meeting of subproject leaders took place for planning project follow-up activities.

 

This seminar is part of the qualification program for the SDG Graduate School CLIFOOD, it is the fifth of seven Block Seminars planned per generation of PhD Scholars between the Hawassa University (HU) in Ethiopia and the University of Hohenheim (UHOH) in Germany.
