Soft skills seminar - Scientific working


Improvement of methodological skills and soft skills is an important component of the CLIFOOD qualification program.


The first soft skills seminar Methods of Scientific Working was conducted at the University of Hohenheim from January 22 to January 25, 2018. CLIFOOD scholars from Hawassa University and University of Hohenheim, FSC-scholars as well as PhD students at the University of Hohenheim attended the seminar.

After introduction to the library and literature databases at the University of Hohenheim an intensive three-days training was offered to the partcipants by experienced trainer Dr. Philipp Mayer*.

The main parts of the program included:
Writing efficiency
-    stages of the writing process
-    productive writing habits
-    accelerating writing processes
Conducting literature searches
-    reference management with software tools
Writing research articles: types, text structures, strategies
-    structuring research articles (structure of introduction, material and methods, results, discussion)
-    creating figures and tables: design tips and software tools
