CLIFOOD Block Seminar 2: Food and feed crops
As part of the qualification program for the SDG Graduate School CLIFOOD, six Block Seminars are planned per generation of PhD Scholars between the Hawassa University (HU) in Ethiopia and the University of Hohenheim (UHOH).
The second Block Seminar of the CLIFOOD SDG Graduate School took place directly after the first one also at the Hawassa University from November 25th to 29th, 2017. CLIFOOD scholars from HU and UHOH as well as young scientists and lecturers from HU were trained during the Block Seminar.
The focus of the 2nd Block Seminar was on the Food and feed crops, and within the frame of this topic, the following lectures were given by experts from the International maize and wheat improvement center (CIMMYT) in Ethiopia and Professors from HU and UHOH:

| 6. Climate change impacts on crop yield and quality: How can we meet the challenge? |
| 7. Greenhouse gas emissions from the livestock sector and possible Research areas of mitigations |
| 8. The benefits of Enset crop for food security situations in Eastern Africa |
| 9. Status and potential of seasonal forecasting for Ethiopia |
| 10. Ecology of Agroecosystems: A systemic approach to understand the ecological role of biotic interactions in Agricultural landscapes. |
| 11. Enset Crop and Food Security in Sothern Ethiopia |
The lecture on “Status and potential of seasonal forecasting for Ethiopia” was given by Prof. Dr. Volker Wulfmeyer in the format of video conference being streamed from UHOH to HU.
During the Block Seminar the CLIFOOD subproject leaders also had the opportunity to present and discuss their research projects and to plan the activities for 2018. Also the CLIFOOD (PhD and postdoc) scholars presented their progress reports and could get the feedback from the colleagues, experts and subproject leaders.
