FSC welcomes south-south scholar Michel Bawa

02-17.09.2019, University of Hohenheim, Germany

Michael Bawa is the first Excellence South-South Ph.D. scholarship holder from the FSC. Coming from Ghana, he is currently doing his Ph.D. research entitled “Edible insect: House cricket raising and processing in promoting human nutrition and food security” at the Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand.

To intensify exchange among researches on the field, allow the scholar access to international scientific community and thus to advance his research career, the FSC supported research stay of Michael Bawa at the University of Hohenheim from 2 until 17 September as well as his participation at the Tropentag 2019.

Supervised by the FSC scientific staff Nils Noelle, Michel Bawa got an opportunity to learn HPLC analyses, the methods and procedures of extracting vitamin D, caratenoid and vitamin B from crickets and grasshopper (edible insects).

Summarizing his research stay Michael Bawa admitted to be better equipped now with relevant skills required to address food and public health nutrition problems.
