World Food Day Colloquium 2020

16 October 2020

This year, the World Food Day Colloquium, organized by the Food Security Center (FSC) and the Hans-Ruthenberg-Institue of the University of Hohenheim, focused on the challenges and opportunities of our agricultural and food systems to ensure food security during crises. In times when the food security of millions of persons is being threatened by the covid-19 pandemic, the desert locust crisis, climate change effects, and other crises, searching for new opportunities in our agri-food sector is crucial for ensuring food security.

The World Food Day Colloquium offered a unique platform for experts and other stakeholders to answer questions on how different crises affect food security, how they evolve the industry and what is to be done to ensure a fully sustainable food value-chain throughout difficult times.

Through the Young Investigators panel discussion, the WFDC also offered a unique opportunity for young scientists to give insights into their research and to open up the dialogue on new perspectives related to food security.

A special highlight of the WFDC was the presentation of the Global Hunger Index 2020 by Welthungerhilfe.

Due to the covid-19 pandemic, this year´s WFDC was virtual, and although an event in person would have been, as every year, our first option, the online modality allowed the participation of many more interested persons, which made this year´s WFDC a very dynamic and successful event.
