World Food Day Colloquium 2022
The Food Security Center and the Hans-Ruthenberg-Institute of the University of Hohenheim thank you for your participation at the World Food Day Colloquium (WFDC) 2022 "Back to the roots - Basic sciences for sustainable development", which took place on Tuesday, October 18th, 2022.
The focus of this year´s WFDC was the linkage of basic sciences, fundamental understanding of nature and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. According to the United Nations, basic sciences provide the essential means to face major challenges, such as universal access to food.
One of the highlights of this year´s WFDC was the presentation of the annual Global Hunger Index report by Welthungerhilfe. Also, our keynote speakers presented their perspectives on how basic sciences and emerging technologies can respond to the needs of the growing global population by enabling sustainable food production, providing access to information and improving food security among individuals, communities, and societies.
Through the Young Scientist Session, the WFDC also offered a unique opportunity for young researchers to give insights into their work, showing us how basic sciences are vital for advances in agriculture and food security in different cltural and geographical contexts.
Following two years of virtual meetings, we were very happy to finally meet in person again! Thank you for joining us and for your active participation, it was great hosting you in the Balcony Room at the Hohenheim Palace, and online.
